We’re celebrating 40 episodes of the Digging for Idols podcast by launching this official website! The pod will continue to maintain its presence on Instagram and TikTok and continue publishing episodes via Buzzsprout, where they are distributed to various pod outlets like Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Supplementing those activities, this site will serve as a hub for news and updates outside of social media, as well as a place to collect press, offer a more detailed listing of our podcast episodes, and—eventually—offer the DFI merch that listeners have asked for.
Digging for Idols launched in September of 2023 after creators and co-hosts Christopher and Taylor—friends that bonded over a shared love of Survivor—noted a lack of discussion surrounding the vast history of Survivor contestants (“castaways”) appearing in non-Survivor film and television. Hours of poring over IMDb resulted in a list of over 500 acting credits accrued by Survivor castaways, a number that continues to climb as Survivor approaches its 50th season. With appearances ranging from primetime television to prestige films, from no-budget horror films to music videos—by castaways whose acting careers vary from distinguished to one-and-done—Digging for Idols has no shortage of material to cover as they recap and rate performances on its Survivor-themed scale.
Over its first 40 episodes, Digging for Idols experienced significant growth and developed a strong following within the Survivor community. The podcast’s social media content is frequently shared by Survivor castaways both past and present. Guests from Survivor during the podcast’s first year included Daniel Lue (Survivor: The Amazon) and Rita Verreos (Survivor: Fiji).
With plenty of Survivor podcasts available to fans, Digging for Idols stands alone due to its unique and specific premise, studio-level production quality, and the rapport of its co-hosts who bring high energy to the show from different generations.
